High chairs or booster seats, which do you use first with babies?
Hi, I'm having twin girls, my 1st pregnancy, due in May.
What is better and safer for babies, high chairs or booster seats? My baby shower is coming up soon and some people have asked about buying booster seats, but we have no idea - we thought high chairs were better for babies. Anyone know? Thank you!

Highchairs.
booster seats are for bigger children who can support themselves better.

It really depends on the model and what you are looking for. We have a high table so a high chair doent do anygood, except when he uses his tray. But sometimes he likes to be with us at the table and we use a booster seat with a seat belt like thing. We have both and I can see good use out of both for any situation.
boosters will not hold up a baby. You need a high chair first.
Highchairs for sure. However, my mother in law bought a booster seat thingy but its actually a high chair that attaches to a dining room chair. A space saver or something (I'm sure you all know exactly what I'm talking about). It has a back and everything that reclines until my son is old enough to sit up better. It's nice.
High Chairs. Boosters are used more by toddlers during meals and movies. Our theatre offers them. You can always have a Booster on your list anyway.. Eventually you will use it.
High chairs come first. Booster seats second.
Try the Peg Perego or Zooper high chairs. Those recline and are made in Italy so they last years. Any thing Graco or Evenflo falls apart in about 2 years and have a low resale value.

High chairs are for babies.
Booster sits are for children who can sit themselves, just aren't tall enough to be a good level for sitting at a table. Boosters are usually used for 3-5 year olds.

With our first child we used a high chair, with our second we just used a booster seat ( http://www.amaz… ). I prefer just the booster because it doesn't take up extra room in the dining room. There are simple booster seats and some that have as many features as a high chair. Sites like amazon.com have customer reviews so you can see what people who use them like and dislike about them.
Well I always thought high chairs were better until I did my research! I found out that there are booster seats for babies six months and up. They're amazing! I have one, it's from fisher price it's rain forest and it has a little toy tray you can connect so the baby can play while you're cooking. It's only thirty dollars and it straps to your kitchen chairs and it's adjustable to your babies size. It's good from six months or whenever your babies sit by themselves until about forty or fifty pounds. I totally recommend buying those! They save money and room since high chairs are so bulky! You can find it at walmart and target.
Booster chairs are indeed for older children HOWEVER I've discovered this little baby high chair that also works as a boosterand they take less space!!! SPACE IS THE KEY!! Specially with twins!!
OK this is the one I got-well an earlier model without the play thingy... but it's great!

I used it with my daughter. I had a very nice high chair for my son but it was oh so hard to clean up!!! It was brutal!! When I had my daughter I've seen a friend of mine using this one and I loved it!! The best part is it can fold and you can take it with you when you go out to dinner or holidays etc.

Well it depends - a booster seat is fine from 6 months (I have this one http://www.amaz… and it's been fabulous from 6 months, and lasts for years) but no younger really, but then it is not recommended you start babies on solid food until 6 months anyway, so in my opinion there is really no need for a highchair before then anyway, bouncy chairs are good for before 6 months if you need somewhere to sit them. I bought a highchair anyway that was suitable for younger and my son never used it and then hated it when I tried him in it. I got the booster and if I had any more children I won't be bothering with a highchair. Also, my son was not sitting unaided by the time he used his booster, he had the general bodily firmness of a 6+ month old which is necessary, but he couldn't sit on his own, and his doctor actually recommended I sat him in the booster seat more often when he turned out to be a late sitter, and it was this that did the trick and got him sitting. So they don't need to be sitting unaided for a booster seat - doctor approved! It's your choice anyway, but as I said, booster seats are the way forwards for me, much cheaper, the portability of them is fantastic, my son has always enjoyed sitting in it (unlike his more padded highchair, interestingly!), no problems!
EDIT - by booster seat, by the way, I am assuming you are talking about the type of thing that I have (as you can see in the link) which as I said is fine from 6 months, I think people must be talking about a different thing to me when they say boosters are only for much older babies/children.

Register for Bumbo seats, also. You can sit them on top of your table (with proper supervision of course) while you eat and the babies won't feel like they are left out. These seats are much easier to clean than high chairs, also.
we got a chicco highchair and i love it, easy to clean, two dw safe inserts, folds down small and has place to hang tray on back; easy to adjust in every way; it also reclines so a younger baby can sit with you at dinner and it has the height adjustment so you can lower it if needed and it will go high enough to pull up to the table when we are eating; and it's also good to have for a younger baby when u r washing dishes or cleaning kitchen; just recline and they are right there in sight the whole time, ours has wheels that roll easily so i can drag her around behind me...
High chairs first. Boosters come at about 18 months.
