I got a 30.00 Graco high chair from Target, we used it from about five months old until around a year, maybe a bit longer. As far as saving space, I'm not sure. Once they are able to sit real good on their own and are a bit more coordinated, you can use a booster seat. I personally don't see the benefit in buying expensive things unless they are for safety reasons.

WELL THEY CAN SIT IN THEM AS EARY AS, 4 OR 5 MONTHS, AND YOU CAN STILL PUT THE CHILD IN THE HIGH CHAIR, UP TO ABOUT 2 YEARS OLD, SO IT'S BEST TO GET A GOOD ONE, SEARS HAS A LOT OF NICE ONES.

They have those kinds, that some restaurants use, that attach to the table. That is pretty space saving. After about 2 years, you can get by with a booster seat on a chair. Then, at about 5 they can make out pretty well in a regular chair.

Its not wise to get an expensive high chair. From experience my children didn't even like been in them. A baby can stay in the chair till he/she is able to sit fully on her/his own and see above the table. So around 2-3 years old. I would say to save space the best are at a department store. You really don't need knobs and buttons on them. lol

I had a highchair and because I have no extra space it had to get folded up all the time, the problem was I couldn't fold it up on my own! But hey it was free!.

Anyway I had a portable seat and I used that instead and would just sit on the floor and we would eat together. It folded up really small.

I used it until about 14 months when it became a bit small.

I'm not exactly sure on how long but I know my nephew is 2 1/2 yrs and still sits in his high chair.

Expense really doesn't matter, my sister spent twice as much as I did and she actually likes mine better :)

And I used a bouncy seat until my baby was about 5 months, and now days they even have mini high chairs that sit in you chairs, though I'm not sure how long those would last.

I have a "safety 1st" high chair that turns into a booster. It actually attaches to a chair you already have and it really saves space. It pays to get a more expensive one if you are concerned about how comfortable it will be. But really...how long is your child going to take to eat. He/she won't be in it that long at one time to need a fancy reclining one with wheels and all that.
As far as how long they are in a high chair, it varies. My son is 16 months and he is using it as a booster and eating from a plate on the table. He has been doing so for about 5 or 6 months. (our plates have suction cups, it really helps). There is a 21 month old across they way the is still in a high chair. And there is a 19 month old that sits on his knees at the table to eat.

We have a highchair and at the moment I can't recall the name (First Years Brand).. Anyway, it comes apart really easily and the legs fold flat which has come in handy for going to other people's homes for vacations/holidays... Although, I do wish that the seat somehow folded as well to save space... We have two children ages 1yr. and 3 yr. and they both still sit in a highchair..We would put our kids in the chair when they were about 4 months.. Ours tilts slightly for younger infants. It's nice because they are seated and stay seated and if they make a mess it's generally on the tray and easy to clean... I think that ONE STEP AHEAD.com has some nice highchairs that aren't expensive and can be used as a regular chair when your child grows out of the high chair... I also like a chair w/o padding it's easier to wipe down and keep clean.. There are also chairs that "clip" onto your kitchen or dining room table that I've seen, that might be a nice alternative as well as space saving... We couldn't use one because we had a glass top dining room table that was two pieces.... Good luck...

I have a Daycare & two daughters ages 2 years & 5 months... That being said, I highly recommend a booster seat. "The First Years" brand has a great one.. it reclines to 3 different angles & you can take off the tray when the child gets older, then attach it to a normal chair so that your child can sit at the table with you.
To me a big high chair is a waste of time & money. I bought for my 1st daughter, she used it for maybe 3 months. I ended up buying a booster for a family trip, and that's what she ended up liking better.. Good Luck!
